The town of Brechin, Angus dates back to ancient times. Here you will find an array of architecture which supports this fact.

“Brechin Cathedral”, now known as The Parish church has been standing in this formerly walled community since the thirteenth century. It’s round tower is believed to have been built as early as the eleventh century, and possibly earlier.

“Brechin castle” was originally built in the thirteenth century, with much repair and renovation taking place during the early eighteenth century. Brechin castle at one time actually had about one hundred fifty thousand acres of property included as it’s grounds. Today the property still consists of about fifty thousand acres. Here you will see that the castle is surrounded by forests, and has beautiful seventeenth century formal gardens. There are even several guest houses located on the property, which are open for public rental. Today you will even find a museum and shopping center located right on the castle grounds.

“Pictavia visitor centre” is located on the grounds of Brechin castle. Here you will hear and view the history of Scotland’s ancient “Pictish tribe”. You will be amazed when seeing the beautiful hand carved stone work, dating back two thousand years ago. Beautiful animals and birds as well as ancient Scottish symbols have been carved into these stone.

Brechin has many fun and interesting things for the entire family to enjoy. There many choices in lodging, as well as many fine places to eat. In keeping with the rest of Scotland, this town is absolutely beautiful. From hills and cliffs, to rolling country sides, you will get a look at the real Scotland. Brechin is not a place to miss.
