Can anyone reccomend a good Greek dish for a garden party?
I’m headed to a friend of a friend’s Greek themed party in the evening, on a beach, and I have no idea how many people are going. I think it’s a neighborhood/people he knows from school deal, and I wanted to bring something simple and inexpensive that wouldn’t be disgusting and would travel well. I was thinking of just doing tzatziki, but if anyone has another idea, please share!
Greek salad is a must. You can pack the vegetables separately and mix them together at the gathering. Another excellent idea is the Greek pasta salad that a previous answer suggested.
Greek Salad Recipe
* 3-4 ripe, garden tomatoes
* 1 medium onion (whichever kind you like, doesn’t really matter)
* I large English cucumber
* Feta cheese
* Greek whole black olives
* Extra virgin olive oil
* Salt
* Pepper
* Oregano
Cut the tomatoes in wedges. We like to cut our tomatoes to be about medium/large, but you can cut them small if you prefer.
Cut the cucumbers. We like to large, round pieces in our salad, but you could cut the pieces in twos or fours if you like.
Cut the onions to your preference.
Add the vegetables to a mixing bowl.
Add the salt and pepper. Just a pinch of pepper and to give you an idea about salt, we use half a table spoon. You don’t have to add this, remember. The full flavors from the olive oil and vinegar would be tasty as well.
Add the vinegar. My family loves the addition of white vinegar (about 4 table spoons) in our Greek salad. Some people use balsamic vinegar, others just add a little red wine. You can test different combinations to suit your tastes.
Add the olive oil. My family adds quite a bit of olive oil. 
Like I said earlier, we like to dip our bread in it. We like to add about 1/4 cup of olive oil, but you use less or more if you like.
Finally, crumble the feta over your salad, place the onto top, and sprinkle the oregano.
