Anyone who decides to throw a party definitely has a full list of things to do, including food party planning. The food that is served at the party is very important. Many or most people look forward to eating in a social setting. Therefore, you will want to serve things that will be delicious and filling to your guests. Hasty decisions regarding what and how much to serve are never wise. So, plan on taking the time to prepare an appropriate menu that will make your event a hit.
One of the first things you will need to consider when food party planning is whether or not you are going to follow a particular theme. For instance, if you are having a Hawaiian luau or a Mexican fiesta, then you will want to serve food that complements the particular theme. If there is no particular theme, then you will be most successful if you choose a menu that will appeal to a wide range of people.
For instance, you will need to serve some sort of appetizers along with your predinner cocktails and other beverages. A good rule of thumb is to have approximately 5 appetizers per party guest if you are planning on serving a meal, and anywhere from 10-15 per guest, if you are planning on just having appetizers and drinks. Serve a variety of different types so that your guests will have a selection.
When food party planning for the actual meal, it is important to note that many meals begin with a soup or salad. Keep your selection simple and small as you will want your guests to have plenty of room to make it through the entire meal and possibly dessert. Many meals have a meat dish as part of the main course which will consist of chicken or beef. In addition, a couple of vegetables and bread are often served. Rice or potatoes can be used instead, or in addition to a traditional green vegetable, as can carrots. Bread can consist of several different types of rolls or sliced loaves of bread. Your guests will appreciate having a variety. You can also include wine, red or white, with the meal. Be sure to match the wine to the type of cuisine you are serving. Also, be sure to provide plenty of condiments for those guests who prefer them.
One way to give your guests a delightful end to a delicious evening of food is to add dessert to your food party planning list. Choose a rich cheesecake or fruit compote or a dense and rich chocolate cake. Serve tea and coffee, as well, to end the evening on a high note, and leave your guests with the memory of an enjoyable evening.
