Fun free things to do with kids in montreal, qc?

I am planning a day in Montreal with 2 kids (ages 6 and 8), and I would like to find something interesting to do with them that is free of cost! (museums, any interesting places to visit?) It has to be near public transportation (Metro) since I do not drive.

Montreal is full of amazing food that the kids would love, too. The best experiences for me have been at Olive et Gourmando in Old Montreal. It’s near the museums you will probably be going to, as well.

If you can, bring bikes because the pathways along the waterfront are gorgeous. You could also take them to the underground and show them the Metro and the miles and miles of underground shopping centres. It’s fun to pop up to the street in a completely different neighbourhood. If it rains, this may be the best bet.

Don’t forget to have your kids practice their French. Even please and thank you would be a great start and it’s a nice feeling to be immersed in the culture there.
