My 4 year old daughter loves Dora the Explorer. If you have little children, you probably know what I am talking about. And while we may be tempted to buy the Dora and Boots themed napkins and plates when it’s birthday time, that is not the smart way of picking a kids birthday party theme.
Picking a kids party theme is so much more than the napkins, plates and the cake. You know you chose a good party theme when your guests are engaged and entertained. The right theme lends itself for fun activities, games and crafts, so that the kids are playing and enjoying the party.
A good theme is interactive. Keeping your guests engaged and entertained makes for a fun birthday party. When you pick the right theme it is easy to incorporate it into the party. Décor is one thing, but the experience of the party is what your kids will remember. Ask yourself: can the kids immerse themselves in the theme? When you pick an interactive kids birthday party theme, your guests become part of it and the party becomes an experience.
A good party theme ties in fun activities, games and crafts. Back to our Dora example: a great activity would be to give the kids a quest. Make them rescue Boots from the top of Star Mountain. How do they get to Star Mountain? Ask the Map. You can have already made the map, or it can be a craft project, where all the kids make a map. The children can solve riddles in order to cross the Troll Bridge and collect chocolate treats from the Chocolate Tree while counting in Spanish before they reach Star Mountain.
Keep kids engaged and entertained with the party theme, and they will have a blast! You know this to be true if you or your children have been to a party where they did not know anyone. Although having a Dora character show up may be entertaining, it does not help the shy among us mingle with new kids. This is why games and activities are so important. When you pick the right birthday party theme for your crowd, your guests immerse themselves in the party, making for a more intense experience. Tying the theme into every part of the event and making the children a part of the celebration will make your party a success.
Kids will enjoy the party when they interact with each other. The theme should contribute to keeping the kids busy and having fun. It plays a part in the activities, games and crafts adding to the birthday experience. Although themed napkins and plates have a place at the party, it is certainly not the main consideration for a theme. And after the kids go home after a great birthday party experience, you can say: “We did it!”
