Does anyone know a photosynthesis experiment for kids?
I am looking for a fun, easy kids science experiment that has to do with photosynthesis or tropism where I can accomplish the results in three days. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
If you have a stream or pond around, you can go find some aquatic plants like Elodea or Coontail. Then, cut the ends of the plants and put the plants in some glass container that has water with a little baking soda in it (the baking soda helps provide dissolved carbon). In a couple minutes you’ll see little bubbles coming from the cut end of the plant. These are oxygen bubbles resulting from photosynthesis.
You can put the plants in different temperature water or in different light conditions (like outside or in a dim room) and count how many bubbles are released in a certain amount of time and use this as a rate of photosynthesis (i.e., more bubbles = more photosynthesis).

Lots of aquatic plants will do, but these are the two I’ve had most success with.
