fun toronto activities

Toronto is most widely recognized as the economic engine and unchallenged entertainment capital of Canada. It has acquired this reputation mainly due to a rich mixture of activities such as Broadway style musicals, domestic productions, exciting road shows, and classical concerts.

Every year, there are over ten thousand entertaining shows in Toronto. With such a large number of shows to see, it’s not difficult to find something that is alluring for any Toronto visitor. Shows may be organized by small independent groups or put together by professional theater companies. They can be held at a diverse range of venues such as the plush Royal Alexandra Theater or the Roy Thomson Hall. With such promising infrastructure, it’s easy for Toronto to live up to its reputation.

Traveling a short distance outside the city, there are two well-known theatre festivals. The Stratford Festival features William Shakespeare. William Shatner, Alec Guinness and Christopher Plummer have all performed on the Stratford stage.

Besides these exciting shows and festivals, Toronto is also well known for its breath taking architecture. In recent years Toronto has had the opportunity to be one of the most admired cities, with major projects by internationally recognized architects. Some of these names include Frank Gehry, Norman Foster and Daniel Libeskind.

Casa Loma is a gothic castle built somewhere between 1911 and 1913. It has one of the most unique set of structures ever seen. It comes with horse stables, turrets, a very large grand hall, a wine cellar with a musty smell, bowling alleys and more. This castle is right in the downtown core of the city. Children will enjoy a visit to the castle because they can explore secret hallways hidden behind wooden panels, have a race in one of the long tunnels, or just have loads of fun climbing up and down the turrets.

Spadina House is a mighty mansion that was occupied by many generations of the world renowned Austin family. With it’s traditional rooms and conservatory, the House is filled with a mysterious but strangely charming aura.

But if you get bored with sight seeing, there’s always shopping to fall back on. On the vibrant streets, there’s no lack of unique and interesting merchandise for sale. The mall that deserves special mention is the Eaton Centre. This mall, built back in 1979, has a unique architecture and landscape. You can still see the sun light streaming through the mall and on to the trees and fountains. A rare experience for any shopping fan and a great place for taking pictures.

All in all, a visit to Toronto is guaranteed to give you an unforgettable experience. The wide variety of beautiful buildings, exciting shows, unique merchandise and shopping malls draw a large number of tourists every single year. It’s an excellent location for both the urban traveler and the suburban dweller.
