will 3 and 1/2 hours be enough to get to times square from JFK, walk around a bit, and back again for a flight?
hi…i’m visiting an aunt in florida and i have about 4 hours in JFK to wait for the connecting flight. i was wondering if 3 hours to 3 and 1/2 hours would be enough to go to times square and back to do a little sightseeing.
also, what would be the most efficient means of transport to get to times square coming from JFK? i’d really prefer a “complete idiot’s guide” of the whole trip because this would be my first time traveling alone.
it would be fun to wing it when i get there but the aggravation i’d cause my aunt if i miss my flight would be quite daunting!
please help

Sorry but no that will not be enough time. JFK is at the end of Queens farthest from Manhattan. You will spend about an hour or more just to get to manhattan which means about the same time back so you got 2 hours gone already and that is if there are no problems with traveling.
The best way to get to Times Square would be to take the airport monorail to the Jamaica Long Island Railroad station and get a train to Penn Station. You would be in Times Square, but you will then have to wait on the train time and the monorail to get back to JFK. If you try the subway it is gonna take even longer to travel and taking a cab can be pricey and you probably are gonna run into traffic and that could come close to doubling your travel time depending on when you are traveling. IF is falls in what we call rush hour like 4pm to about 6 or 7pm, as we say, fugedaboudit
Unless you want to seriously risk missing your plane you need to just stay in the airport. You really do not have enough time to do more than get to Manhattan and immediately turn around and hurry back to the airport.
