Going to California. Were should I book my Hotel?

Me and three friends are planning to go in California at the end of August. Never been there so I’m not sure were to book the hotel. Its 4 of us in total ages 22 – 24. Basically looking for a spot with plenty of nightclubs and fun activities. I know its either going to be LA or San Diego. Just not sure which place is better. Please let me know if you have anything. Thank you

I have been to LA quite a few times now and for your age group which i have only just come out of i would stay in Santa Monica. You can walk everywhere. You have the beach, the shopping and they have some lovely bars and restaurants.
Its not easy to get around to other areas of LA if your all drinking, by taxi only at night and this will cost a fortune to head up to sunset strip and hollywood.
If you stay up there then you’ll find it tacky pretty quickly during the day and find yourself seeking for other things to do.

Of all the people i know who ended up staying in the Hollywood area said how much they hated the city and for those who ended up staying either in Venice or SM they loved it.
SM is generally very safe and people walk around at all times of the day and to be honest you don’t get much hassle.

During the day you can get local buses to and from other areas, though i would potentially avoid them, i have got them before and the people that travel on buses are quite unsavoury and you could be putting yourself at risk being on them.
