Monopoly’s new online browser game city streets started of with a popular bang. The servers crashed in day II while millions of would be property tycoons raced to buy up any street of value. The game itself although taking on a very interesting concept was put in bad light due to the amount of cheating undertaken by some of its eager players. On day IV of the games we where told that there would be a reset and finally all the cheaters would be taken care of.
Not to feel down heartened by all the hours wasted already, I looked forward to the next round. So far the game has lived up to its expectations and the leader board, I believe has now eradicated all the would be cheaters.
The launch of the new game came with quite a few changes which meant that ones strategy had to be reviewed. Now owning over 5 streets would mean you would have to pay tax, and at a stage of owning over 40 streets you will find yourself paying 100% tax.
In a way the fun has been taken out of the game, especially if your only interest was to buy the street you live on and streets in your town or city. It appears to be that the revenue you get back on a building that is in a city is not anywhere compared to that of what you would get back if you own a national highway. Most peoples strategy would start of buying something in their home town as that was the way the game was marketed but only days into the game you will find that to keep up with the leader board you will have to get more serious and competitive and dump your original streets and invest or seek the longest roads you can.
Again not to be disheartened I have adopted this strategy and gotten rid of my small streets and have bought myself long highways in off beat countries. I still wish the game was more personal and that I could be a property tycoon in my home town, but alas to keep up with the rest I have had to put that dream to sleep.
This city streets article was written by David Kimberley the owner of the website http://www.citystreets.co.za. It is the South African forum for the game Monopoly City Streets.
