Downtown
Bordered by freeways, Downtown has no real geographical boundaries. Although choked at first, that mass of concrete is full of places to discover.
The Civic Center is the city’s largest office buildings throughout the United States after Washington, DC. It lists all municipal, regional, national and federal Los Angeles institutions, including the federal court of the United, where the famous OJ Simpson trial took place.
A few blocks east of Civic Center, you can find El Pueblo de Los Angeles, which were classified a State Historical Park, commemorating the site where the city was founded in 1781 and it contains many old buildings. Olvera Street, the main attraction of the park is a narrow street that was restored in 1930 in order to become an open Mexican market.
On the other side of El Pueblo, you will find Union Station, an architectural treasure often unnoticed. Built in 1939 in the style of the Spanish missions, the station is worth a visit. A little further north, Chinatown is the cultural and social center of some 200 000 Chinese living in Los Angeles.
To the southeast of the Civic Center is located Little Tokyo. This district, which was founded in the 1880s, houses the Japanese population in Los Angeles, nearly 250 000 inhabitants. The streets and malls are found dotted with shops selling bento (lunch boxes) and traditional Japanese gardens.
The Museum of Contemporary Art, located south-west of the Civic Center, was built by the Japanese architect Arata Isozaki. It houses a collection of paintings, sculptures and photographs from the 1940s to today, known to be among the largest in the world. The Westin Bonaventure Hotel stands in the west of the museum, five cylindrical glass towers that any moviegoer will recognize immediately.
Hollywood
Los Angeles has built its reputation on the fascination of film and most tourists want to see flashy scenery to soak up the atmosphere. Down Hollywood Blvd, you will see the imprints of hands and feet that more than 150 celebrities have left on the esplanade of Mann’s Chinese Theater (formerly Grauman’s Chinese Theater). Continue east, you come across the Roosevelt Hotel, the place where the first Academy Awards took place in 1928. Furthermore, Errol Flynn, Salvador Dali and F. Scott Fitzgerald often came to have a drink.
At Collectors Book Store at the corner, you will find memories of those bygone days. Many museums specifically mention the kitsch of past stars. These include the Hollywood Wax Museum and the Frederick’s of Hollywood Lingerie Museum, where you see the lingerie worn by stars.
Beverly Hills
West of Hollywood is Beverly Hills, a city in the city that shows off its wealth with stately homes on impeccable land and shopping streets full of great fashion brands. The Golden Triangle is bisected by Rodeo Drive, a place of eye-catching spending where Tiffany, Armani, or Louis Vuitton is installed. North of Beverly Hills is the epicenter of luxury residences. To know where the homes of stars, it is a good idea to buy a Star Home Map to a street vendor.
Malibu
Few beaches in Los Angeles manage to keep their reputation. Immortalized by the Beach Boys and Baywatch, the beaches are polluted and reality often poorly attended. Some, however, deserve a visit. Despite the existence of nice public beaches, the majority of the shoreline is private.
Santa Monica and Venice Beach
North of the airport, Santa Monica is one of the most charming neighborhoods of Los Angeles. Even if the beach is less frequented than the hottest days of summer, it is good to spend an afternoon in the neighborhood. The 3rd St. Promenade is the heart of Santa Monica, a sparkling pedestrian street which is full of street musicians, cinemas, bars and cafes. Many fairground attractions, including a carousel dating from 1920, are installed here.
Venice Beach is representative of the lifestyle of Los Angeles. The Ocean Front Walk, near the beach is full of jugglers, acrobats, improvised orchestras, basketball players and bodybuilders.
Los Angeles vacations are fun for the whole family. When looking at vacation packages and travel deals to Los Angeles make sure to bundle and save your vacations. Buying the car, flight, hotel, and activities all at once will increase the savings on your trip.
Looking for another destination? I would suggest also looking at Las Vegas vacations for some fun in party city.
