new york city?
for the holidays, instead of exchanging gifts with friends, we are going to spend the money on something fun we can all do together. we were thinking of going into the city as we live on long island and could take the train in. any ideas? farely inexpensive, things to do during the day and night, nothing that involves previously purchasing tickets like broadway. we have done most of the museums and go to the city often. if you have any ideas of funky/different restaurants or places that have hands on type things. i dont know really, just any place thats different htat we could have a good time.
we’re 17 by the way so no bars/ clubs.
thanks so much!
we would absolutly stay together and we only live about an hour away so we have been there before. i actually dont think we have done the tree though which is surprising. any suggestions for the restaurants?
Here’s my recommendation:
Start your day out at the Apple store at 59th St. and Fifth Avenue. Even if you’re not Mac users, it’s a New York experience that’s not to be missed. Then, walk your way south down Fifth Avenue, stopping along the way to see the elaborate holiday decorations at Bergdorfs, Saks, and the like. You’ll have lots of company doing this, and it’s like a mini-party on the street!
When you hit 47th Street, head west into Rockefeller Center to see the tree. If you’re lucky, you’ll hear some carolers, and you might even see a celebrity, becaused NBC studios is right there. You’ll also want to watch the ice skaters there, and you can even join them if you like (although there’s a fee for this).
When you tire of this, head over to 61st Street and Third Avenue — an easy walk if it’s nice out, or a $7 cab ride if your feet are tired. Walk into Dylan’s candy shop and dip some marshmallows or strawberries into their chocolate ‘fountain.’ If you’re in the mood for a movie, there’s a theater next door.
Finally, have dinner at Serendipity on 61st Street between Second and Third Avenues. It’s another New York institution, a lot of fun for all ages, and it’s not expensive.
Have a great trip!!
