Lesson Plan for High School Students?
I’m teaching a course this summer to high school juniors.. it’s an introduction to law and the american justice system. I’m trying to think of some fun ways to do it (the class is only 3 weeks long).. and so far I think I’m going to conduct a mock trial, maybe show a movie to illustrate the judicial process (I was thinking 12 Angry Men, but I don’t know if the kids will like it.. or I might record a Law & Order episode), talk about some current legal issues today (myspace, facebook, etc.).. can anyone give me some more suggestions to get the students involved? I don’t want them to be bored. Thanks!
You can take them to a trial or have them follow one through the press. Also, invite local attorneys – especially those involved in children’s rights – to come and speak to them.
Also, look for cases of teens on trial. The Robin Hills Murders might greatly interest them. HBO made a documentary on them and there is at least one book written about it.
