Stuck for ideas for the school fete? Don’t think you have to organise something really flashy and expensive. Often the most popular attractions are the really simple ones.
Here are five simple fundraisers for children that won’t cost your school a penny.
1. Belltower (The ladder game) – All you need is to lay a ladder down on the ground with a goal or bucket at the end. Contestants simply try to toss bean bags between each space between the rungs. The final bag goes in the bucket.
2. Paper Aeroplane – Contestants buy a sheet of A4 paper. They build a paper aeroplane to their preferred design. They then compete to see either how far it will travel ( keep updating a best of the day board with the 3 best distances on it). Alternatively have a board with a hole about 50cms diameter cut into it. If they get their plane to fly through the hole they win a prize. Or can they land their plane on a sports mat at a certain distance.
3. Spoonful of Marbles – Using just a desert spoon or teaspoon how long will it take you to put 25 marbles through the hole in the bottom of an upturned flowerpot. Or how many can you get in the hole in 2 minutes.
4. Giant Hoopla – Use kid sized hula hoops and traffic cones for a giant version of the fete classic. You will need to weight the cones inside with bags of sand or something similar.
5. Junior Welly Wanging – Welly wanging (competing to throw a rubber wellington boot the furthest) can easily be turned into a children’s fundraising idea. Simply use smaller boots and go for distance as per normal or toss toddler boots into buckets to win a prize.
Do you get the idea? There are loads of simple and cheap ideas out there just waiting for your fete committee!
OK they are all simple ideas. But dress them up a bit. Come up with cool names. Design colourful eye catching posters and you will have a fete to remember and a nice amount of cash at the end of the day.
