The holidays seem to gear everything up right away. Not only do companies have to usually do more work but people need to get more done with work and personally. There are more demands in the work area and more demands on time. No wonder that time seems to be slipping away and holidays approach in a very fast manner.
In this season it seems that there is a pushing that occurs to get everything done right away with weather affecting things and customers wanting it all completed very smoothly and quickly. But now there are many customers coming and wanting at the same time. So there is an extra pressure that seems to occur around the holidays.
What needs to be remembered is that most of us are in the same boat. We are trying to get the shopping done, we are trying to get all the work done, we are trying to service all the customers, and we are trying not to get frustrated while doing it all. Management would be involved to remember that the employees have just as much to get done as management does from a person’s point of view. The season is suppose to be a very positive season and pushing to the point of frustration is probably not helpful. By that I mean anger, raising voices, or showing displeasure should be reserved at this period of time. I have found that acknowledging that it is a hectic time for everyone and encouraging the extra effort works much better than disciplining.
During the increased work times understanding often says more to the employees. Work hard and then give them an appreciation party.
