celebration school florida

To many non-residents, Florida means sunshine all the year round, so there is no need to give any thought to the time of year when they plan an Orlando vacation. But anyone living in Florida soon realizes that the weather is indeed very different in, say, Summer compared to Fall – and so are the crowd sizes! But does it really matter to the thousands who flock to Disney World each year? It could, and here’s why!

The first two months of the year are among the quietest of all, so if you like smaller crowds at the theme parks January and February may be the ones for you. The area gets a lot of visitors from the north, Canada and the USA, and these are the so-called “snowbirds” who escape wintery conditions in their home states. Because it is “low season”, a lot of family groups choose this time also. Rental homes and hotel rooms are available at just about their lowest rates of the year. Days are cool by comparison to the rest of the year but still warm by out-of-state standards.

The busiest time of the year is Easter, which falls within March or April, so if this is your preference you need to plan ahead. Accommodation and car hire can be difficult to book – some vacation homes have reservations for two or three years in advance. Disney World and the other attractions have big crowds with long lines at the most popular rides. Rainfall is usually scarce and humidity is low.

One of the quietest times of year follows during the months of May and June. UK tourists offset some of this when school holidays take place but in general the area is relaxed. By June the period of afternoon showers begins – however, the sun soon returns after 20 minutes of rainfall and temperatures are hot.

In July and August, in addition to a big increase in crowd size due to many people taking annual leave, temperatures also increase – to ninety degrees or even higher. Theme parks, hotels and vacation homes all work hard to keep the large number of tourists happy.

Fall begins in September and temperatures begin their decline (even if this is only into the eighties!). As the crowds thin out in the theme parks and the humidity falls, Orlando becomes a little calmer each day.

Daytime temperatures are typically below eighty degrees in October and November and the change in night time temperatures is especially obvious, when more than a simple T-shirt is required (but not much more!). Regular visitors find these months some of the best to visit with the combination of more moderate temperatures a a less frantic atmosphere at the attractions.

Last but definitely not least is December. Christmas and New Year are almost as busy as Easter, so roads are full, Disney’s parks are crowded and prices are at their highest. Making up for this are the fantastic fireworks displays put on by Walt’s team for the New Year. The first part of the month, though, can be a bargain time because many families are wrapped up in Christmas preparations, so flight and accommodation is often plentiful and less expensive. Look out for the displays of decorative lights in residential communities around Central Florida.

So although there are some really big differences from one season and even one month to another, there really is no “ideal” time for that Orlando vacation. I recommend that you schedule your trip for the time that suits you the best – and whenever that is, you are virtually guaranteed lots of sunshine and lots of fun.
