have you heard of it?
I just got a letter from the league of American poets saying that they are going to publish my poem in a book called, A Celebration of Poetry. they said it was part of an anthology series, and that it was a special edition, anyone heard of this series? Im so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you havent seen my blog, this is the poem:
Sea otters in the sea
Threatened by the human beings
Water pollution can be stopped
If people cared enough to not
Put harmful things into our oceans
Show the slightest bit devotion
Not pour a potion into the sea
Made of oils and debris
If someone cared enough to quit
It would help a little bit
Don’t waste so much
Cause now you see
It goes to the ocean
With the debris
The more you conserve
The more you save
You can help our oceans every day
Just try to cooperate
Be a little compassionate
Or our sea otters see their fate!
I googled the “League of American Poets” and checked some writer’s forums.
I hate to tell you this, but it doesn’t look too good.
It wasn’t completely conclusive, but it looks like you’ll end up paying to have it published, and paying (a lot) to get a copy of the book. Some of the complaints that I read indicated that people paid and have waited for more than a year to get a copy of the book–and it still hasn’t arrived.
Don’t take my word for it. Check it yourself. And please, carefully read any agreement before signing away the rights to your poem.
On the brighter side, your poem is very nice and I enjoyed reading it. I think you are talented and should continue to develop you talent.
Poetry is hard to publish in books, but may be easier in magazines.
