Did your children get the shaft because they have birthdays during the holidays? “No, of course not,” you say. “They got plenty of gifts. Instead of having a birthday party on the actual birthday around the busy holiday time, you have a half birthday party at the ½ year mark. And there are advantages of having a half birthday party.
Since the half birthday falls in summer, you have many more options for birthday parties. An outdoor party is so much nicer than having everyone cooped up inside. You can have that pool party they were never able to get. You can take the party to the park, or out in the backyard. There are so many more options in summer. Just don’t forget to make back up plans, just in case the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Relax during the holidays. By all means, celebrate the birthday during the holidays with cake and gifts, but you don’t have to feel guilty about not going all out. After all, that half birthday party is coming in summer. You will have more time to really make your child feel special.
You get to spread out the expenses. When all the credit card bills hit in January, you will be glad the birthday party was not part of it. It is much better to have some expenses in December and some in June, rather than all at the same time.
Of course you can have the pool party, but why not play up the half birthday? Having a half birthday party theme is half the fun. Imagine this: your table is dressed in half a tablecloth, balloons are everywhere but blown up only half way and all your other decorations are cut in half. When you sing Happy Birthday, suddenly stop in the middle of the song. You can have guests wrap only half of the gift. How about some half party games? Three legged races are perfect for this kind of party. There are many other games that can be adapted for the half theme. Maybe half a relay or an egg race with eggs cut in half. The possibilities are endless.
The half birthday party makes good sense. So reduce your stress during the holiday season and opt for the half birthday party. In this case, half a birthday party doubles the fun.
